About the Presenters

Tom Ulbrich


As one of our community's most passionate advocates for small business and a business owner himself, Tom intimately understands the power that entrepreneurship has to unlock human potential, create jobs, inspire wealth, and invigorate economies and communities across the globe.


Tom has dedicated his personal and professional work to small business advocacy and is a sought after speaker on topics concerning the importance of small business and entrepreneurship to the vitality of the American economy.

Currently, he serves as an Assistant Dean at the University at Buffalo School of Management, Executive Director of the Blackstone LaunchPad at UB, and Executive Director of the Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership (CEL) where he works with a dedicated team to give small business owners the support they need to thrive.


Under Tom’s direction, the Center has expanded its interdisciplinary approach to educating business owners through experiential learning and mentoring. CEL has over 1,400 graduates whose businesses employ over 22,000 employees in Western New York.


Scott Friedman


Scott E. Friedman is the Chairman of Lippes Mathias Wexler Friedman LLP, a law firm with offices in Buffalo, Albany, New York, Florida and Burlington, Ontario. He is also the Founder of Delphi21 Advisors, LLC (formerly Next Gen Advisors LLC), a business consulting firm that focuses on assisting family and closely held businesses as well as professional partnerships. Working closely with an organization’s existing professional advisors, Delphi21 is helping to pioneer the application of positive psychology in the design and implementation of plans, policies and structures for businesses across the United States. 

 

Friedman, an Entrepreneur in Residence with the UB Family Business Center, is a nationally recognized authority on family business, is the author of five books and numerous articles on the subject. His latest book, Family Business and Positive Psychology: New Planning Strategies for the 21st Century, was published by the American Bar Association.


Friedman is also a General Partner in Impact Capital, a venture capital fund that supports early stage companies in New York State.
